Although Loose Sugar was officially launched in 2013, it has been a dream of baker Lindsey Beckworth since 2009, when she was a junior majoring in journalism at the University of Georgia. When the pressure of deadlines and tests got her down, Lindsey would lift her spirits by trying out new recipes and sharing them with her friends.
The joy she got from sharing her baking hobby with others far surpassed anything she had previously found while writing articles for her journalism classes. After graduating in 2010, Lindsey decided to trade her metaphors for muffins and set out on a journey to make a career out of her hobby.
The years in between the beginning of the dream and the fruition have been challenging and rewarding ones. Lindsey has been a barista/baker at the Coffee Den in Sandersville, Ga. and an intern at The Pie Lab in Greensboro, Al., all the while learning and growing as a baker and a person. After three years of learning, Lindsey officially launched Loose Sugar in 2013.
Lindsey believes that we are all created to do something unique and specific that makes us come alive, and encourages others to take the leap and follow the dream that makes their heart swell.
For Lindsey, Loose Sugar is so much more than a bakery. It’s a community with a beating heart at its center.
